During longer excursions, no matter how different people may appear initially, everybody behaves according to the following scheme:

1) At the very beginning the collective euphoria prevails – shiny, happy faces everywhere. As time goes by the optimism slightly disappears. By the end of the day everybody is exhausted, tired and can’t wait to see the bed - convinced that to go on this trip is the dumbest idea they have ever had.

2) The next morning, to everybody’s surprise, there is still enough strength to get out of bed. Outside the birds are singing and there is the smell of fresh air all around. Muscles heat up inch by inch and tongues are found at last. Finally, in the evening by the campfire, everyone is proud of themselves and their hiking success. Beer is drunk and songs are sung. The animals are terrified.

3) On the third day, no one even considers mentioning the pain. Even more, most of the group members appear to “have found themselves”. Businessmen, doctors and journalist are certain that “this is it” and that they will “stay here forever”. The most excited ones call their families and friends and say their goodbyes.

4) The last day could be called “the valley of weeping”: equipped with noble emotions and team spirit the group tearfully parts.

Now, why would anybody deny such an experience to themselves and their friends?
